Cling Systems and volytica diagnostics: Partnering to Strengthen the Second Life Battery Trade

Dresden and Stockholm, August 27th, 2024 – volytica diagnostics, a pioneer in battery monitoring solutions, has announced a partnership with Cling Systems, the platform for battery circularity.

As the demand for sustainable energy solutions continues to grow, buyers and sellers of batteries face unique challenges. Sellers often struggle to achieve fair value for second-life batteries, which may include off-spec batteries during production or 1st life, due to buyers’ concerns about potential safety risks and unknown performance issues.

Buyers, on the other hand, are wary of investing in these batteries due to fears about reliability and safety, leading them to either avoid these purchases or pay a premium for new or extensively refurbished options.

By leveraging Cling Systems’ platform, tailored to streamline the trading, tracing, and transport of batteries with volytica diagnostics’ advanced monitoring solutions, this partnership aims to fill a significant gap in the market.

For vendor perspective: Unlocked revenue potential and streamlined monitoring

The state-of-the-art battery analysis software enables sellers to maximize the value of their batteries by providing comprehensive condition reports. Diagnostics based on field data provide potential buyers with valuable insights into battery health and capacity performance. This enables a precise valuation of the equipment. The continuous monitoring feature allows sellers to track the condition of deployed batteries from the outset and proactively identify potential degradation, anomalies and safety risks.

For purchaser perspective: Confidence to invest in in second life batteries

Battery buyers have greater confidence when purchasing second-life batteries and benefit from manufacturer-independent battery diagnostics. The analysis provides insight into critical performance indicators such as State of Health (SOH), State of Charge (SOC), degradation and safety risks.

However, these benefits come at a time when the industry is facing a significant skills shortage: the European Union predicts that up to 800,000 jobs in the European battery value chain will remain unfilled by 2025 (European Commission, 2021), exacerbating the skills gap.

“Partnerships with companies such as Cling are hugely beneficial to the wider industry. Given the impending shortage of battery experts, providers and clients trading batteries on Cling’s platform can have independent battery health, performance and life assessments without struggling to find the right expertise themselves” says Claudius Jehle, CEO and Founder of volytica.

“We recognize the critical importance of the right skill set and data to make informed decisions and reduce friction.” says William Bergh, Founder and CEO at Cling Systems. “Our core focus on trading of circular batteries is a great fit with volytica. By partnering with them, we’re proud to contribute towards sustainable practices and maximize the commercial value and potential of batteries.”
